"Emilia ... I don't think we've discussed this with enough consideration," Charles warily insisted as he backed away from the slowly approaching Duchess. Again, Charles found himself backed against her desk, almost right after he had put the candle down. He hadn't even been given time to shut her curtains. She was reckless, and he was already struggling.

"I haven't the time, Charles. He's to be here in a fortnight!" Emilia squawked, her nerves obviously on edge as she swiftly closed the distance between them, only to have Charles scurry away at the last moment and dash towards her bed, turning on his heels afterward.

Emilia turned as well, brows pinched and already looking to close the distance again. Fumbling for a way to pry into her sense of reason, he raised his hands defensively, trying to jar her into keeping her distance.

"Kissing is one thing, but to ... I can't just ... We cannot just ..." Charles struggled for the appropriate words to argue.
