Heart pounding and ears ringing with the sound of her own breathing, Callie’s gaze flinched over her shoulder at the feint echo of her pursuer’s string of lustful laughter. She could hear them - smell them getting closer. Every time one of her clones was caught, she felt her freedom slip further away. Feel her own body start to betray her.

She gasped a stifled whimper when she tripped over a raised section of roots, her wide eyes returning forward as their laughter drew nearer. She could feel herself tense as she skid around another corner of the hedge-lined garden maze.

The Tavern always sought to deliver, and that included those with a taste for more … primal urges. To chase and be chased. To hunt and be hunted. And their suites didn’t disappoint. Purposefully landscaped, the near-acre of land had been designed and sculpted to house a maze of shrubs and sorcery. And in an attempt to delay her capture, the wizard had cast a number of illusionary clones as decoys - and they were fading fast.

Crying out when the wind was suddenly knocked from her, Callie felt herself be thrown to the ground in a haphazard collision of bodies.

“Finally,” Kit growled against her fearfully flattened ears as they tumbled toward a nearby tree.
